Atop the Roof with my Marco Tagliaferri Bag

A snapshot of life not as a doctor: Last night Mike, our friend Shana and I visited the roof for the first time this summer.  We sipped Lindemans Framboise and waxed poetic about summer BBQ's, life transitions, and the time that our other mutual friend ran over my heel with her car...

Today, I returned to the roof with my camera.  I had a full day of going to the bank, returning some merchandise to Target, purchasing new measuring spoons (finally, I now own a 1/4 tsp--the days of overdoing the Allspice are over!), and...bringing home some $10 shoes from Famous Footwear.

After the wedding, I've spent a considerable amount of time on Photoshop since our wedding photography package included all the raw photos.  Photoshop can do more than my brain and fathom, but at least I know how to use the Auto Curves feature.

I really like how my bag looks sitting by itself on the ledge. I didn't overstuff it today because I actually had to carry it around town.
The rest of my outfit is...
Top: made in Vietnam (by our favorite tailor, of course) off a photo in a Mango catalogue.  I was introduced to Mango when I studied abroad in Madrid.
Jeans: Paris Blues, and they are from at least college if not high school.
Bracelets: purple from J Crew and red from Amish Country! The Amish are stylish.
Shoes: $10 from Famous Footwear :)

This is my favorite picture of the day.

I really like using filters. I should get Instagram but I don't have a smart phone.

Krazy Kolored Pants and My First Peplum Top

I say some pretty self-explanatory things in my blog titles, causing me to have little to say down here in the regular text portion of my blog post.  As a preamble to the colorful pants you are about to witness, I must congratulate Forever 21 for manufacturing pants to my liking.

1 & 2. I saw these monochromatic outfits on JCrew and decided that I wanted to look like a Blue Man.  Top: Target, Pants: F21, Shoes: UO
3. Top: Ann Taylor, Pants: F21, Shoes: BR (you can't see them!), Belt: JCrew ~ I am missing this belt currently :(
4. Top and Pants: JCrew, Shoes: Steve Madden
Ok, a word about those J Crew pants. They are the Hutton Trench Trouser and, on me, they are 1. too big and 2. wrinkly. Shame. I originally tried them on in a P00 and muffin topped my way out of them unattractively.  This was the first time that J Crew sizing was too small on me. Then I exchanged them for this pair, which was a P2 (I made this choice based on how extremely tight the P00 was around my waist).  The P0 is no longer available otherwise it would seem like the logical sizing, no? Oh well, I will keep these, iron them, always stand up straight, and perhaps wear a thick sweater tucked in with them. Problem solved.

And now, my first peplum top:
1 & 2. Top: Marshall's, Skirt: J Crew No. 2 Pencil in Feather Paisley, Shoes: from Vietnam
3. Skirt: J Crew (No. 1) Pencil in double serge wool
4. Skirt: from Vietnam, Belt: J Crew, Shoes: UO

And in real life, the shirt and new F21 pants are worn to Niagara Falls!
I am wearing my mom's Danskos because it was freezing.
I am also carrying my Benetton purple nylon bag and wearing a thrifted moto jacket.

Shirt: AE, Shoes: Sears, Belt: F21
Ok, in truth, these blue pants are a little big loose around the hips.  But this can be negotiated with a belt and by striking only certain poses and...standing up straight.  I had a brief stint when I thought I would take them in at the hip by hand.  But then visions of muffin-topping deterred me from going through with that operation.
Another iteration of these awesome pants at Niagara Falls. With a UO tee.

These outfits were from BEFORE the wedding.  For that particular week (which was in April or May, I can't remember), I carried my MT bag everywhere:
1 & 2. Dress and Cardi: Ann Taylor Loft, Pants: J Crew pixie, Shoes: Sam Edelman for AE
3 & 4. Tee: UO, Jeans: Seven, Shoes: from Madrid
And that is all...up next, all about the time that we bought way too many bananas and what I baked with them.

Hypothyroid Outfits

Did I lament about my lack of thyroid hormone lately? I almost fell asleep in the middle of the sentence. Luckily I have not fallen asleep while driving, which is my greatest fear.  I am sadly up to 2 cups of coffee a day to stay awake.  Alas, caffeine interferes with the absorption of levothyroxine. But look, I have successfully awoken at least 8 times in the past few weeks in order to wear the following outfits as well as take photos of them!

1. Sweater: gift from Mom, Turtleneck: JCrew, Skirt: JCrew, Shoes: from Vietnam
2. Sweater and top: gift from Aunt, Belt: JCrew, Pants: JCrew Pixie Pant, Shoes: Banana Republic
3. Sweater: same as #1, Shirt: JCrew, Pants: JCrew Minnie pants in Parsley, Shoes: Calvin Klein
WOW I am heavily representing JCrew in this assortment of outfits!

Here, I demonstrate the addition of a scarf that I bought from a street vendor while visiting Pittsburgh!
Other than that, I am wearing my beloved dress from Vietnam as a jumper.
I am holding Nutrigrain bars.
My boots are Nine West and belt is from JCrew. They have matching studs.

1. Shirt: from Vietnam, Sweater: gift from Grandma, Pants: H&M, Shoes: from Vietnam, Coat: Anne Klein. I accessorized here!
2. T-shirt: Zara, Jeans: Ann Taylor Loft, Shoes: Sears, Bag: Marco Tagliaferri
3. Dress: H&M, Shoes: Urban Outfitters

This is an oooooold shirt from Gabe's. I am experimenting with a new photo locale in my apartment.
Jeans: Forever 21, Shoes: gift from dear friend Sansrita, Necklace: gift from dear friend Jen
Did you see the artwork in the corner of the above outfit picture? That was by the hand of yours truly. Oil pastel over a linoleum block print.

I noticed that I have a label called "shopping spree" for my posts and feel amiss that I have not composed a post worthy of that label lately. This, of course, is directly related to the lack of shopping spree in my life.  I have been too hypothyroid to shop.

Talbots, Cardiology Outfits, Amish Country

AHA! I've got your attention with the random combination of the above subjects.  Maybe you wonder how I will tie them all together, well, the answer is that I won't. In fact, I'd like to add some more topics to the mix: calligraphy, pink Marco Tagliaferri bag, lavender nails

While I was on inpatient cardiology teaching service, I managed to get dressed 5 times.  Please note my sock bun in the last picture.  My hair is super unwieldy and all of my sock buns unravel within ~an hour :(

1. Top: tailored in Vietnam, Skirt: Anthro, Belt: J Crew, Shoes: Sears
2. Top: Talbots (<3), Cardi: AE, Pants: H&M
3. Top: tailored in Vietnam, Pants: F21, Belt: J Crew, Shoes: Talbots (!)
4. Tshirt: Charlotte Russe, Skirt: Anthro
5. Top: H&M, Skirt: Anthro, Shoes: Sears

I sort of recently discovered how awesome Talbots is (over the last few months).  I also recently acquired new calligraphy markers and calligraphed while on an empty stomach until I became quite dizzy (over the last few hours).

Onto the Talbots...

The featured Talbots items are 1. Blue jacket and 2. Purple Espadrilles
Some favorite returning guest stars are: Pink Marco Tagliaferri bag, Seven7 jeans, Anthropologie trench coat skirt
Behold! I painted my nails purple and wished to 'casually' showcase them with everyday objects.
Clockwise from upper left: Marco Tagliaferri bag, keys with duck keychain, Groom quiz book c/o Danielle, Loathesome Pager

Mike and I went to Amish Country last week and stayed at a great Bed and Breakfast.  While there, we saw many animals, ate a freshly made farm breakfast each morning, learned about the Amish culture and other tidbits about life.

These are some images that evoke "Amish Country" for some.
I never did get a chance to ride on a buggy.  Truth is, they were noisy, slow, and the pooping of the horses was too frequent for my liking.
My hair is in a sock bun (for the moment)!
Chillin' and maxin' out.
Quite self explanatory: I pose by a tractor while Mike interacts with the animal residents of our B&B.
Outfit: Talbots jacket, H&M dress, J Crew pixie pants, Zigi shoes, purse from Amish leather shop (wahoo!)
This is legitimately cool: Mooney Warther train carvings of (right) ebony and ivory and (left) wood + ebony/ivory accents.  This museum, though located in a humble setting, was breathtaking!  Warther used no glue! He is indeed, the master carver.

On the grounds outside of the Warther Museum.

And that is all, folks.  Coming up next....

Pink and Orange

I love love love this maxi check pink shirt.  The non-pink squares are beige/tan lending this shirt a lived-in vintagey feel.  Also it is soft like cotton, oh wait it's 100% cotton.

Also, despite my ranting about the poochy butt of the bi-stretch wool minnie pant, I am a hopeless fool when it comes to skinny black trousers.  I hope the skinny pant look doesn't fade away. I know that wide leg, flared leg and high waists are on the rise (pun!)again and I don't like the smell of it! Back view to demonstrate my new haircut...I didn't style it or anything which is why it looks non-good.

Belt: JCrew
Shoes: Target
Bag: Marco Tagliaferri, from HGBags

Trying out the pants with my favorite orange soft tshirt from American Eagle Outfitters.  They don't make shirts like this anymore! It has a tiny hole on the bottom edge :(

Earrings: from Francesca's Collections, a very nice boutique. My friend Anjani got them for me when she visited a few months ago.  She is going to be one of my bridesmaids!  I think I spotted a bridesmaid dress but that will be the topic for another post.

I am loving these yellow flats from Target.  They are actually quite comfortable. They have a sliver of a wedge heel which feels essentially negligible but looks nice.

I have been getting back in touch with my love for yellow.  I have everything in yellow and one day I will wear all of it at once or take pictures of the items for display here on my blog of silborg.  Mmm I am picturing all the yellow things now as I speak: yellow purse, wedges, flats, blouse, button down shirt, tshirt, sweater, pants, earrings, hair clips, nail polish, socks, even a hat.  Mmm, looks like I lack yellow belt, gloves...

Then I tried the pink check shirt with one of my beloved pencil skirts!  I LOVE pencil skirts.  They are the perfect pick-me-up garment for the middle of the work week when I am feeling dull and grey.

Shirt: JCrew
Skirt: Anthropologie (me gusta the notch at the zipper of this skirt!)
Shoes: Sears

Outfit Flyby

I haven't updated in almost two weeks! Bad! I will make up for it by posting the outfits that I remembered to take pictures of since the date that I last updated :-p

1. H&M blouse, JCrew skirt, thrifted belt (I've had it for 15 years!! yes I wore it as a child.), shoes from Burlington Coat
2. JCrew blouse and belt, H&M pants, Sears shoes, thrifted earrings but you can't see them
3. AE Tshirt, JCrew skirt, Aerosoles shoes, Marco Tagliaferri bag

My allergies are getting so bad each spring.  I should take my allergy medicine more regularly, e.g. daily. But hey, at least I remember dress myself to go to work.  Let's just say that I haven't had a vacation in 12 months and sneezing 500x a day is the least of my problems right now.  Yesterday I had a grande iced caramel machiato and it was pretty good during the 5 seconds that it took me to gulp it up. But during the ensuing 5 hours, I peed out at least a liter and became dizzy.  I learned that the coffee used in iced drinks at Starbucks is stronger to take into account the ice melting.

Sweater: unknown brand
Skirt: Ann Taylor Loft
Tights: Urban outfitters
Shehs: Target
Earrings: you can't see them but they are yellow buttons. Thrifted them a few years ago when I was in my yellow phase!
I still loooove yellow :)

One day last week I wore my beloved kelly green shirt and eggplant earrings. I also painted my nails dark green.  My shirt was tailored in Vietnam.  The earrings are made out of clay and are from a local store with other jewelry made out of clay.

Blouse made in Vietnam, H&M trousers, Forever 21 belt, Steve Madden wedges, eggplant earrings

Just another day

I tried to update my blog yesterday but blogger was down down down!
Here's what I wore today:

blouse from Vietnam
J Crew Minnie pants
I <3 comfort shoes
Marco Tagliaferri bag
earrings from a boutique
belt from J Crew

Pardon my messy kitchen table!! I tried to move to another place to take pictures to mix things up.

I changed my outfit subtly as I took the pictures.  Here's how it all started: first I had my blouse tucked in.  Then I untucked it and moved the belt outside.  Then I put my hair up.  Today the pants really made me angry: they got poochy in the butt!!! ugh. They looked fine everytime I checked myself out on reflective surfaces but felt SO WEIRD.

I LOVE wearing these pants with light blue tops.  Apparently I have enough blue shirts that I haven't recycled any combos yet.

I also bought some new makeup that I'm pretty excited about! I will post about them later.

I love my pink Marco Tagliaferri bag!

something pink awaited me when I got home today...

Delia's sweater, thrifted skirt (it never wrinkles!), $8 suede pumps from Sears
accessories: F21 hair clip, Oscar de la Renta sunglasses

It finally stopped raining here so of course, I went to the roof.  The sun is glaringly bright on the roof and makes for great pictures even though they all have the derelicte look :-p
